India's practicing conversational designers come from English-literature backgrounds, UX writing bootcamps, IIIT-H's NLP elective tracks, and even customer-success roles at chatbot SaaS companies (Haptik, Yellow.ai, Gupshup).
2-3 end-to-end bot design samples — a WhatsApp flow, an IVR decision tree, or a voice-skill dialogue — with annotated fallback-handling rationale, intent taxonomy, and before/after conversation logs showing reduced dead-ends. Hiring managers at Freshworks, Haptik, and HDFC Digital screen on dialogue artifacts, not degree.
Google's Actions on Google / Dialogflow CX course, Amazon Alexa Skill Design certification, IBM Watson Assistant training (free), Conversation Design Institute (CDI) Certified Conversation Designer credential, and Voiceflow's community design challenges. Dialogflow CX is the most asked-for tool certification on Indian JDs.
UX writers pivoting to conversational design by adding NLU tooling fluency (Dialogflow, RASA), or NLP engineers who develop design taste and move into dialogue architecture. Both paths work; the portfolio is the proof.
