Flag any high-SA or medically complex cases that need extended review; route standard cases to the acceptance matrix for same-day processing.
Process the day's medical underwriting files — review attending physician statements, tele-medical reports, and lab results for proposals above the sum-assured threshold requiring full medical evidence. Apply the insurer's substandard life classification matrix (standard / rated / modified / decline) and draft acceptance or decline letters with specific reasoning for each case.
Commercial lines review block — assess commercial property, marine cargo, or liability proposals submitted by corporate brokers. Check hazard class, sum insured, occupancy type, and loss history. Check any new IRDAI circulars or master policy guidelines issued during the week that affect underwriting norms or free-look obligations. Update internal rate guidelines if pricing assumptions have been revised by the actuarial team.
End-of-day reporting — update the UW register with all decisions made, ensure delegated authority log is current, and flag any cases pending additional information for the next day's queue. Senior UWs review the day's portfolio additions for loss-ratio tracking purposes before signing off.
