Monument Conservator Salary in India 2026

Steady demand — India's 3,686 centrally-protected monuments have a maintenance backlog estimated at several hundred crores in the ASI Annual Reports; state departments manage another 5,000+ protected structures. Climate change (increased monsoon intensity, higher salt loads in coastal and arid zones) is accelerating stone decay, expanding the workload for trained conservators. The pool of qualified heritage conservation professionals remains small relative to need: SPA Delhi, CEPT, and INTACH Heritage Academy together graduate fewer than 100 specialised conservation professionals per year against an active monument stock requiring ongoing intervention.
