Transitional — the Indian Army will add 50,000-60,000 Agniveers per year, with 25% (~12,500-15,000) retained annually into regular cadre. Demand for Other Ranks remains structurally high given India's 1.4M active-duty army size and ongoing LoC/HAA operational tempo. The Agnipath scheme has changed the career trajectory fundamentally: the pre-2022 pension-and-service guarantee is gone for 75% of entrants, but post-exit government employment pathways (CAPF, state police, PSUs) are being formalised. Career ceiling for retained soldiers remains meaningful — Subedar Major and Honorary Commission routes are unchanged. The primary growth uncertainty is political — if Agnipath is modified or rolled back by a future government, the retention percentage and exit package terms will change.
