Growth Outlook
Strong through 2035. India's water crisis — 89 over-exploited districts in the Indo-Gangetic Plain, arsenic and fluoride contamination affecting 200+ districts, and IPCC-projected 15-20% reduction in monsoon reliability by 2050 — creates structural, non-cyclical demand for hydrologists across CGWB, NIH, CWC, state groundwater departments, and environmental consultancies. The Jal Jeevan Mission (2024 target: 100% rural tap water) and Atal Bhujal Yojana (2026 target: 8,773 over-exploited blocks with PGWMPs) alone sustain 3,000-5,000 hydrologist-years of work. NAQUIM's Phase III (national aquifer mapping completion) and the National Water Mission's sub-missions create further demand. The risk is concentration in government employment — private consultancy for hydrology in India is growing but still thin outside World Bank / ADB project cycles.
