Genetic Counsellor Salary in India 2026

Very High — India's genetic-testing market is expanding at 14–18% per year (MedGenome, Strand, Mapmygenome, and hospital-embedded genetics units are all hiring). NIPT adoption across tier-1 obstetrics, hereditary cancer screening driven by awareness of BRCA risk, and central-government rare-disease programs (NPRD) are simultaneously expanding counselling demand. Formal training supply is acutely insufficient — fewer than 500 practising BGCI-certified genetic counsellors against a country with 27 million annual births and rapidly rising cancer genetics referrals.
