Government & Public Service
An SSC CHSL employee is a 10+2-level central-government clerical or support-staff worker selected through the Staff Selection Commission's Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) examination — the largest non-graduate government recruitment in India. Posts filled include Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) in central ministries and attached offices, Postal Assistant (PA) and Sorting Assistant (SA) in Department of Posts, and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in offices of the Controller General of Accounts, DGHSD, and similar central agencies. Day-to-day work means file movement and noting/drafting in the government file system (e-Office), data entry into PFMS and legacy registers, attending to public counters, sorting and dispatching mail at postal divisions, and supporting officers with photocopying, dispatching, and record maintenance. Around 15 lakh aspirants appear in the CHSL exam each year for roughly 3,000–7,000 vacancies — a highly competitive but realistic target for 12th-pass candidates who want a stable central-government job without a bachelor's degree.
