Audiologists in India diagnose, assess, and rehabilitate hearing and balance disorders across pediatric and adult populations — from newborn-hearing-screening programs and pediatric cochlear-implant candidacy work, to adult presbycusis (age-related hearing loss) and tinnitus management. The profession is regulated by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) — RCI registration is mandatory for clinical practice. Major training institutes include AYJNISHD (Mumbai), AIISH Mysuru (All India Institute of Speech and Hearing), JIPMER, NIEPMD Chennai, and SRMC. Audiologists work at multi-speciality hospitals (Apollo, Fortis, Manipal, AIIMS), ENT private practices, private audiology clinics, hearing-aid retail chains (Phonak, Oticon, Cochlear India, Beltone, GN ReSound), pediatric early-intervention centres, and cochlear-implant programs. The two main career paths are clinical practice (RCI-registered Audiologist at hospital/clinic) and audiology-equipment/cochlear-implant sales-clinical-support (Cochlear, MED-EL, Advanced Bionics India).
