Audiologists in India diagnose, assess, and rehabilitate hearing and balance disorders across the lifespan — from universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) and paediatric cochlear-implant candidacy, to adult presbycusis, tinnitus management, and occupational noise-induced hearing loss programs. The profession is regulated by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) — RCI registration under the RCI Act 1992 is mandatory before any clinical practice. Entry requires a 4-year BASLP (Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology) or B.Sc Audiology from RCI-recognised institutes such as AYJNIHH Mumbai, AIISH Mysuru, JIPMER, or NIEPMD Chennai, followed by a 6-month supervised clinical internship. Audiologists work at ENT hospitals (Apollo, Fortis, Manipal, AIIMS), cochlear-implant programs, hearing-aid retail chains (Phonak India, Oticon India, Cochlear India, Beltone/HearingLife), early-intervention centres for children, and manufacturer clinical-support roles.
